Information on DVD Video Player playback problems
The objective here is showing DVD Video Player playback problems
and make the most use of them for verification of player to determine
as to whether or not it is DVD Format compliant one in the future
time.
The following are countermeasures that can be taken by discs.
We would appreciate it if the person who gets involved in authoring
and contents provider would kindly avail to those information
described below.

(1) ID No. : 105027
Description
of playback problem of Disc
Disc
that Shuffled presentation is set.
Phenomena
of playback problems
Since PG that is selected at random can not be memorized more
than 8, PG that is selected after 8 might be appeared during
shuffle play.
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
Maximum value of PG that is made reference by Shuffle presentation
shall not be greater than 8.
(2) ID No. : 105028
Description
of playback problem of Disc
Disc that FP_PGC is set. And also, execution command exists
in both PRE_CMD and POST_CMD.
Phenomena
of playback problems
Command is not executed appropriately one by one, it might
not be able to operate since no playback is commenced.
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
In the event that FP_PGC is set, execution command to be set
shall be either PRE_CMD or POST_CMD>
(3) ID No. : 105029
Description
of playback problem of Disc
Progressive_frame of still picture is 0.
Phenomena
of playback problems
Still picture with progressive frame causes field still display.
Picture degrading might occur.
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
Progressive_frame of still picture shall be set to 1 in the
event still picture is frame displayed or frame still display
is set at the end of motion picture.
(4) ID No. : 105030
Description
of playback problem of Disc
No padding is set in an end pack of Cell, and valid data is
available through out the end of sector.
Phenomena
of playback problems
Some of data of disc might not be displayed.
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
Increase data size in such a way that it dose not cause problems.
(5) ID No. : 105031
Description
of playback problem of Disc
PGC that comes after PGC in menu space is not available (Next_PGC=0),
however, Next PG_Search is valid.
Phenomena
of playback problems
In the event that skip-up is performed during end program
of PGC in menu space display, the top program of PGC might
be displayed.
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
In the event that PGC in menu space set to Next _PGC=0, all
VOBU of end program shall be set to UOP7=1.
It shall be prohibited to set to NextPG _ Search .
(6) ID No.: 105032
Description
of playback problem of Disc
VOBU of end chapter is short. (Less than 16 sectors).
Phenomena
of playback problems
In the event that a previous chapter is displayed with backward
scan, it will not continue backward scan operation and top
chapter might be displayed after it has jumped to top chapter.
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
Kindly be sure to set end VOBU of chapter to greater than
17 sector.
(In a manner it extends over greater than two ECC blocks.)
(7) ID No.: 105033
Description

In case that specific code exists in main picture.
Phenomena

Parts of main picture has picture degrading in mosaic
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
In the event that elementary encoding of video sets to qscale_type=1,
do not use the setting of qscale_code =14. (qscale_code=13,
or qscale_code15 is OK.)

Description
of playback problem of Disc
When random function is executed repeatedly in one PGC command
table.
Phenomena
of playback problems
Hung-up might occur after PGC command table process has been
repeated.
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
Stop
loop processing until it becomes different random number value
in PGC command table. Set dummy PGC and operate on dummy PGC
and be processed using link command.
(9) ID No. : 105035
Description
of playback problem of Disc
PGC is structured with many seamless cell contact in menu
space.
Phenomena
of playback problems
Disc which allows to select title and commence playback automatically
after menu display. It might be stopped as playback error
after having been freezed, with menu picture displayed.
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
When one PGC is structured with many Cells in menu space,
set LinkTailPGC in Cell command of the end Cell.
(10) ID No. : 105036
Description
of playback problem of Disc
In case that VOB which has no Sequence_End_Code is set at
the end of code and whose Audio data is longer than that of
Video.
Phenomena
of playback problems
Operation will be terminated since player provides error processing,
mistaken it for a missing of Video data.
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
Set Audio data in a manner that it is not longer than that
of Video.
Or set Sequence_End_Code in accordance with the length of
Video data.
(11) ID No. : 105037
Description
of playback problem of Disc
Series of Navi Pack exist after MENU.
Phenomena
of playback problems
Before series of Navi Pack processing has been completed,
freezing might occur due to processing speed.
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
In the event that it is required to exist series of Navi Pack,
set Dummy Pack between Navi Pack.
(12) ID No. : 105038
Description
of playback problem of Disc
VMGM_PGCI_UT is recorded, however, its VMGM+LU_NS is 0.
Phenomena
of playback problems
Unable to display.
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
VMGM_PGCI_UT whose VMGM_LU_NS=0 in meaningless, therefore,
it will not be recorded.
(13) ID No. : 105039
Description
of playback problem of Disc
Address location of FD0000h is too much inner direction.
Phenomena
of playback problems
In some cases, Dual layer, and /or Opposite disc can not be
played back.
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
Make adjustments to surface density in Disc Press process
in a manner that FD0000h address is located 23.20mm (to the
outer direction) from the center of Spindle.
(14) ID No. : 105040
Description
of playback problem of Disc
Disc whose MPEG picture stream is structured with B-Picture
less.
Phenomena
of playback problems
In case of Scan operation, unable to play back after freezed
picture.
Countermeasures
to be taken with disc
Picture encode with B-Picture less is not executed.
