Introduction of TI DVD Verification Laboratory
The
Third Institute (TI) of MII of China is located in Beijing of
China. TI DVD Verification Laboratory is a new Class A DVD Verification
Laboratory.
China
is a big country in terms of her production of DVD products, and
at the same time China is also one of the biggest market places
for DVD products in the world. DVD verification is, therefore,
very important in China in order to ensure the quality as well
as the compatibility and interchangeability of the products. Because
of this, the preparation for the establishment of TI DVD Verification
Laboratory was started by The Third Electronics Research Institute
of the Ministry of Information Industry in March 2000 as proposed
by the DVD Forum and strongly supported by the industry in China,
and it was established in December 2000. In cooperation with and
with the assistance of the laboratories of such as Matsushita,
Taiwan ITRI and Hitachi, TI DVD Verification Laboratory has conducted
format verification on DVD-Player and DVD-ROM products. Due to
the active supports from the verification laboratories of Matsushita
and etc. and also due to the efforts done by the laboratory itself,
TI DVD Verification Laboratory was approved as a Class A Verification
Laboratory during the SC meeting held in Japan on September 13,
2001. Since then its formal verification activities have been
started, and its responsibilities as a Class A Verification Laboratory
have been implemented.
The
verification of DVD products in China is of very great importance.
We wish that the establishment of the TI DVD Verification Laboratory
would not be only for the purpose of verifying products, but we
also wish that the verification laboratory would become a bridge
and platform for technical exchange between domestic industries
and the DVD Forum. TI DVD Verification Laboratory will provide
consultation and technical services to domestic manufacturers
and make its contribution to increasing the cooperation and technical
exchange with big companies in the world, providing services for
the development of the DVD industry.

Information of DVD Video Format Recorder Problem
(1)
ID No. 114096
Some discs which are recorded with a video format recorder have
the following problem.
<
Description of disc problems>
The video attribute information (VMGM_V_ATR) is described as 704
x 480,
although a menu consists of the size of 720 x 480.
<Phenomena
of playback problems>
A picture is adjusted to the standard position by 8 pixels due
to the centering of the picture by the DVD Video player, which
implements the playback based on the VMGM_V_ATR.
Since the location specified for the button of the main picture
is arranged to the size of 720 x 480, the button is deviated from
the location of the main picture.
<Requirements
for production of discs>
The data of the VMGM_V_ATR is required to correspond to the size
of the main picture.

Information of DVD Video Disc Problem
(1)
ID No. 114097
Disc problems relating to MPEG Specifications
<
Description of disc problems>
The "progressive_frame" of all frames is equal to "0",
although the "progressive_sequence" is equal to "1"
in the "Sequence_extension."
<Phenomena
of playback problems>
Some players judge the recorded data as an error, and the
picture does not appear since the player performs the skip operation
during the playing back.
<Requirements
for production of discs>
When the "progressive_sequence" is equal to "1"
in the "Sequence_extension," only the "progressive_frame"
is necessary to be equal to "1" in this sequence.
(Refer to "6.3.5 Sequence Extension" of MPEG Specifications.)
4.
Information of DVD Audio Disc Problems
(1)
ID No. 114098
<Description of Disc Problem>
Some video contents are not defined as an AVTT (Audio with Video
Title) pointed by ATT_SRPT in AMG of a DVD-Audio disc, while those
contents are defined as a TT (Title) pointed by TT_SRPT in VMG
of the disc.
(ref. DVD-8. Video Contents for Audio with Video Title in DVD-Audio
disc)
Every TT defined in DVD-Video zone of a DVD-Audio disc shall be
pointed by ATT_SRPT in AMG of the disc.
<Phenomena of playback problem>
No VCAP (Video Capable Audio Player) can play back such video
contents.
(2)
ID No. 114099
<Description of Disc Problem>
An AVTT has no audio data stream.
(ref. DVD-8.2 Video Title Set (VTS) of DVD-Audio)
Number of Audio streams shall be one or two.
<Phenomena of playback problem>
Every VCAP outputs no audio data when it plays back the AVTT.
(3)
ID No. 1140100
<Description of Disc Problem>
A VTS having VTSM is recorded in DVD-Video zone of a DVD-Audio
disc.
(ref. DVD-8.2 Video Title Set (VTS) of DVD-Audio)
VTSM shall not be described.
<Phenomena of playback problem>
No VCAP is required to understand VTSM. As a result, any VCAPs
can not guarantee to play back AVTTs whose presentation data are
recorded in the VTS (Some VCAP might abandon to play back the
AVTTs).
(4)
ID No. 1140101
<Description of Disc Problem>
An AVTT is constructed as Multi-PGC_Title.
(ref. DVD-8.1 Video Manager (VMG) of DVD-Audio)
An AVTT shall be constructed as One_Sequential_PGC_Title.
<Phenomena of playback problem>
No VCAP can guarantee to play back the AVTT which composes of
Multi-PGC_Title (Some VCAP might abandon to play back it). Especially,
it is uncertain how a VCAP behaves at the execution of User Operation
like "Skip".
5.
Remind of restrictions imposed on DVD-Video zone of DVD-Audio
Video contents can be recorded in a VTS in DVD-Video zone of a
DVD-Audio disc. They are not only defined as TT(s) but also defined
as AVTT(s). A TT is a unit to be played back by DVD-Video player
and the corresponding AVTT is the one played back by VCAP(Video
Capable Audio Player) . Therefore, the specifications of the TT
(AVTT) are the same as that of Part 3: VIDEO SPECIFICATIONS. But
rules to apply the VIDEO SPECIFICATIONS to a DVD-Audio disc are
defined in Part 4: AUDIO SPECIFICATIONS as restrictions for audio
use. Please refer to Chapter 8: "Video Contents for Audio
with Video Title in DVD-Audio disc" of the AUDIO SPECIFICATIONS
for the detail. The followings describe a part of such restrictions,
just for your reference.
<Examples
of the rules>
- Pre-Command,
Post-Command, and Cell Command can not be used except "CallSS
from TT_DOM to VMGM_DOM" command in Post-Command area,
(The CallSS is for Navigation of a DVD-Video player. Every DVD-Audio
Player shall ignore it.)
- Button
Commands can be used ( but some rule are added),
- Cell
Still and VOBU Still can not be used, etc.
