For inquiries of the Verification Tools described above, please contact each Laboratory. Misinterpretations of DVD Specifications appear in actual design since Logical Format of DVD Video Specifications has advanced functions.

It is pointed out that some points in the Specifications do not have the specified description. Supplemental information that should be considered on the design of DVD products is described in this practical report.

We hope that will be of great help to design engineers.

1. Mis-bit-allocation of DVD Video Disc

DVD Video Verifier can be employed as a tool for Logical Format Verification of Disc.
The following are typical errors.

(1) V6002 Buffer management is wrong
Playback failure in MPEG Decoder model (P-STD). Something is wrong with Buffer control Algorism in Encoder.
See p. VI3-89 and ISO / IEC 03818-2.

(2) V6005 Transfer rate is greater than MAX _ Vo.
Error that Transfer rate is greater than 10.08 Mbps.
Time interval of SCR (top of Pack) is required.
Countermeasures might be taken by decreasing Transfer rate if Transfer rate can be set in Encoder.
See p. V15-1 and ISO/ IEC 1381-1.

(3) V 2001 Relation of PTS and DTS is wrong.
Relation of PTC and DTS is wrong. Assuming that something is wrong with Encoder processing for PTS and DTS.
See ISO / IEC 1381-1.

(4) V 1259 PTS exists in A _ PKT which has no first data of audio frame.
PTS exists in A _ PKT which has no first data of audio frame.
Assuming that there are some errors for Encoder processing for PTS and DTS.
See ISO /IEC 13818-1

Mis-bit-allocation dose not always cause DVD player playback problems.
However, we can forecast that problems might occur when DVD Players are introduced to the market one after another in future time. Therefore, we strongly advise you that you conduct verification using " DVD Video Verifier " on the production of discs.

2. Some notes on commercially available DVD Player playback troubles
that affect on discs.

Hung-up might occur when you play a player which is commercially available with the discs described below.
Please note that the following requirements can be met on the production of discs since it has not been specified in the Specifications.

Notes on the disc that PGC dose not exist in Title menu.

Let Title menu, and Entry PGC exist in case that VMGM _ DOM exists, or let Dummy PGC exist in case that VGMG _ DOM exists.
